fun with midcentury — stylistic exploration
I’ve been wanting to inject more whimsy into my art, and I’ve always been an aficionado of midcentury aesthetics. So, I’ve decided to experiment in the style of one of my favorite contemporary artists – Josh Agle (“Shag”).
The fact that his pieces often visualize larger scenes that I normally create means that they can convey complex narratives/messages. Further, I enjoy the simplistic, whimsical aesthetic of his work. (Though the “simplicity” belies a complexity of color theory and composition that supports the story.)
I see this initial exploration as a “jumping off” point more me, and I hope it will allow me to move my work into a new direction!
