Split Window Corvette

The C2 Corvette represented a strong stylistic departure from its predecessor. This closed coupe was larger, more muscular, and more organic than the C1. The rarest of C2’s was the 1963 “split window”. While its hallmark rear window design obscured visibility, it was a beautiful element that moved the eye over the length of the roofline.

I’ve been exploring a very unified, blue color pallet, in my more recent pieces, but here I broke that model. I still limited color usage in this piece, but I incorporate subtle nuances. Note that hotspots on the car transition to orange before gradating to red — making these areas warmer than the more darkly shaded areas. In the environment, highlights gradate to green then blue, then a purple. The brightest areas of both the car and the environment exhibit the most contrast in color, and therefore are the most vibrant. Conversely, because the purple is warm (relative to the rest of the surroundings), it serves as a bridge between the environment and the Corvette. [More art here…]
