Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing 

I may not have one in my garage, but the Mercedes-Benz 300SL is easily one of my favorite gull wing coupes! :-) I’ve been fortunate enough to see quite a few of these remarkable vehicles at various car shows, but experiencing one in person never seems to grow old.

This piece is the third of my ongoing experiments in which I break up the composition into distinct spaces that adhere to neither the two-point perspective of the environment nor the right angles of the frame. The gradations that help to delineate the spaces feel like light and shadow… giving the planes the appearance of existing in 3d space in between the viewer and the image... as if the viewer is peering through shattered glass.
